Other Characters Played: Tidus [Final Fantasy X/Dissidia]

Character: Kyrie
Series: Devil May Cry (4)
Age: I’m going to say 19.
History: Here.
Canon Point: Post ending.

Personality: One thing that almost anyone who meets Kyrie will instantly notice is that she is kind. She is the sort of person who would ignore her own problems and go to console someone in a crisis. She is compassionate toward anyone she may meet. While there may be certain things she fears, the girl doesn’t have a hateful bone in her body. It’s one personality trait of hers that hasn’t been carefully developed by her surroundings, but something all of her own. Kyrie displays no wrath, and is very peaceful. Possibly too peaceful.

Growing up on an isolated island, it’s little wonder Kyrie is incredibly sheltered. She has been brought up to follow all the expectations of the Order of the Sword, the religion that dictates the city of Fortuna where she lives. She is virtuous and humble, easily a good representation of all the morals the Order supposedly stands for. She’s sweet, and kind, but doesn’t have a lot of depth, or a strong ability to think for herself. She, like many other citizens of Fortuna, buys into exactly what the Order tells her. It’s only at the end does she realize the truth in her loving nature, and not the fear provoking thoughts the Order has instilled in her is what matters more. It is what makes her somewhat extraordinary.

This obedient nature is possibly one of the many reasons why she takes a liking to Nero, a young man about her age that mysteriously was found on the island and raised along with her, and who happens to be her opposite in many ways. In a very obvious cliché, the good girl has fallen for the rebellious and vulgar, yet noble guy. She makes her desire to be with Nero obvious to him, yet uses clever double-meanings to keep the attention of people who may be overprotective of her off her. This fascination may go further into the unknown, now that she has been through more danger and seen more violence than she was ever used to.

Unfortunately, Kyrie’s dialogue in the game is rather sparse. However, I think she has a somewhat quiet, introverted nature. She isn’t about to turn anyone down or be unfriendly, but she prefers the company of a select few over a crowd.

Though she lacks any fighting ability, Kyrie is brave. Cannon examples include when she uses her own body to shield a child from an onslaught of demon attacks, and the fact that she doesn’t seem to break even when used and trapped by the very Order she trusted. She may not use weapons, but there’s no doubt she would always protect someone else over herself, at the cost of her own wellbeing.

Skills and Abilities: Kyrie has no known battle skills or fighting abilities. She is a skilled singer, impressive enough that she sings for the Festival of the Blade. It wouldn’t be out there to say she’s musically inclined. She may not play any instruments, but she can read and follow music.

First Person Sample: I bet you’re wondering how Fortuna’s been doing, haven’t you? Perhaps not, perhaps you already know. We’re all recovering, people are moving on. Things will be okay, I have to believe they will be. But I can never—will never, accept that any of it was worth it. You still remember what it was like to lose our parents, do you not? It hurt. It still does, from time to time. But we had eachother, and we were able to be happy. When Nero came into the picture, we were even more happy.

Wasn’t that enough? It was enough for me. I still question why you did it. Your intentions may have been noble, they always were, but you never needed that power. Not to protect me, or anyone else. I’m sure Nero would agree.
Is this how it’s meant to be? The people I care about will keep seeking more power, getting hurt, while I just watch in the background, helpless to do anything? It doesn’t seem right. I don’t want this to happen again. I want to believe that it won’t happen to Nero, but I believed it wouldn’t happen to you…and look what happened. I want to be useful, too.

But here I am, getting off track. Nero and I will stay together, and while I miss you…some part of you is aware of what I am writing. You’re still protecting me, I know it. I hope there comes a day when I won’t need protecting, but until that day, I am not frightened.

Third Person Sample:

“I’m fine.”

That’s what Kyrie would always say, despite the underlying tremor in her voice, the way her eyes would mist up with unshed tears, hair leaving a damp trail over her shoulders as an arm—human, demon, it didn’t matter—wrapped itself round her waist to reassure her.

“I’m fine, Nero, really.”

She whispered the words, trying to smile, trying to be comforting because that was what she did. It didn’t matter that it had been her screams that had pierced the very halls, loudly enough to wake up her lover, friend, her only family left (But he was never asleep to begin with. Who in their right mind would wear their combat gear to bed?). It didn’t matter that she still dreamt of that horrible time, trapped inside the Savior, only this time there was no Nero seeking to rescue her. None of it mattered because she was fine and she was not going to let that be taken from her too.

Besides, she knew she wasn’t the only one who still suffered, who still had fears—however well they were hidden. She saw it in Nero’s expression, mixed in somewhere his eyes and the affection in that half-smile. Part of her felt special, spoiled even, that only she was subject to such warmth from him. She reached up to stroke his jawline, to let him know it was okay. …Another part was currently embarrassed at the fact that Nero had seen her, once again, in her nightclothes. Not that she had specifically chosen them to be exceptionally nice, should he ever wish to see her at such a time, but it still made her feel a little shy.

Still, as time went on, the expectations of Fortuna seemed to matter a little less, and her love with Nero mattered more. She leaned against his chest, and relaxed, the rhythmic way his chest fell calming her as it let her know he was okay now, too. As she began to doze of a little, she thought of better things. She would always continue to smile, and comfort Nero, because of all the people in Fortuna, he was the one person who deserved it the most. He was the one who could make her really smile.
